What are Lip Fillers?

Lip Fillers are made up of a group of injectable medications consisting of hyaluronic acid that help to increase volume in the lips.   Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in the body and is the main ingredient in a product line of dermal fillers made by Allergan pharmaceuticals called Juvederm including Juvederm Ultra, Juvederm Ultra Plus, and Juvederm Volbella XC.  Other dermal fillers include Belotero Balance, Restylane-L, Restylane Silk, HylaForm, Elevess, and Prevelle Silk.  Hyaluronic acid can improve the appearance of one’s lips by adding shape, structure, and volume.  Dermal Fillers made with Hyaluronic acid are all injected using the same methods and can be mixed with lidocaine to achieve a local anesthetic.    The effects typically last around six months.

How it Works

As stated before, LIP FILLERS, work through the hyaluronic acid gel, that when injected,  behaves similar to an inflated cushion which restores facial structures and tissues that have lost volume and elasticity because of aging.   The hyaluronic acid binds to the water molecules which in terns plumps the skin.

What Can I Expect?

After Lip Filler injections, patients can expect the hyaluronic acid to begin its effectiveness immediately.

Lidocaine may be mixed with the dermal filler to help numb the area and control pain.

Following the injections, ice may be given to ease pain and control the swelling.

Patients are advised to avoid lipstick immediately post procedure.

Patients may experience some light bruising.
