Neurotoxins

Neurotoxins are a group of Botulinum injectable products that work on the neuromuscular junction, causing relaxation of the muscles in that area which results in smoothing of the skin and diminishing facial wrinkles.   These products can also be used to treat gummy smile, TMJ, jawline slimming, migraines, and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).

There are three popular neurotoxin products which include Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin.  These three different preparations of the botulinum toxin have unique properties, each of them providing slightly different nuances.   It is important to consult your aesthetic specialist to discover which treatment would be most suitable for you and your condition.

How it Works

When Botulinum toxin A is injected under the skin, it works on the neuromuscular junction, causing paralysis of the muscles in that area.   The result is smoothing of the skin, and a reduced appearance of the wrinkles.   Your aesthetic injector will use the neurotoxin in a series of injections on your troubled area.

What Can I Expect?

Patients are advised to not do any strenuous activities or lay down after injections.   Some light bruising or bleeding may occur.
