Xeomin® is a product of Merz Pharmaceuticals, and is also known as incobotulinumtoxin A, which is a neurotoxin similar to Botox® and Dysport®. How do these neurotoxins differ? Botox and Dysport contain an accessory protein to carry the botulinum toxin. Xeomin, on the other hand, has no accessory protein making it a more pure version of botulinum toxin. In addition, Xeomin is unique in that it doesn’t build up antibodies in the patient because it is more of a pure form of botulinum. The build up of antibodies in a patient diminishes the effects botulinum can have on muscles.
As stated before, Xeomin® relaxes the muscles thus resulting in the smoothing of the skin, and a reduced appearance of the wrinkles.
For jawline slimming and treatment of TMJ, Xeomin is injected into the masseter muscles thus resulting in the appearance of a slimmer more contoured jawline as well as the reduction of pain in the region.
For Hyperhidrosis, Xeomin is injected in the area of excess sweating thus shutting down the sweat glands resulting in a significant decrease in wetness.
Regular Injections of Xeomin can be used to prevent wrinkles as well as treat them. Therefore many experts recommend that patients start treatment in their early twenties even before wrinkles appear.
After Xeomin® injections, patients can expect to see its effectiveness in as little as 2-3 days. Full results should be seen in 10-14 days post procedure.
Patients are advised to avoid strenuous activities or lay down for approximately four hours post procedure.
Patients may experience some light bruising.
Patients are advised to avoid hats or head bands post injection for at least four hours.
The average longevity of Xeomin is approximately 4 months. Please remember that dose equals duration of your neurotoxin.
